About

Chronicling a year at the Toronto Green Community’s Eglinton Park Community Garden, an organic teaching and learning garden in Toronto. Workshop contents, garden events, and the trials and triumphs of urban agriculture will all  appear, as well as general news about food security and green developments in the city. The site also includes:

Read: a listing of resources for learning more about urban agriculture and sustainable gardening, Toronto Garden Calendar: a month-by-month schedule for Toronto gardeners, and Food Security: a listing of organizations doing food security work throughout Canada

The Eglinton Park Community Garden was founded in 1995 by Toronto Green Community. It is a communal garden where volunteers work together every Thursday from 5-8,  growing  food which we donate to Second Harvest, a non-profit organization finding creative solutions to urban hunger.  In addition to our weekly workbees, we run the Great Garden Adventure, a summertime childrens gardening program at this location and throughout the city. The garden strives to show newcomers and lifelong Torontonians how to grow food in the city and provide a place to learn about how food connects to the environment, social issues, and personal health. Workshops on gardening and food preparation are led throughout the year, for more information email garden(at)torontogreen.ca or  come visit the garden at 200 Eglinton Ave W!

    Hi there,
I’m a beginner gardener looking for a space to grow organic vegetables and fruits. I came across your community garden which is fairly close to where I live. Would you please contact me if I can register for some space for next year?
    Thank you very much.

    • This goes out to everyone interested in gardening with us at Eglinton Park,

Thanks for getting in touch. Our garden is a communal garden, rather than an allotment garden, which means that there is no need to register for space. Everyone gardens together and shares the harvest. The focus is on teaching and learning new techniques for organic gardening and pest control, so if that’s your interest, you’ll fit right in! We have workbees every Thursday evening from 5-8pm at the garden which is behind the North Toronto Memorial Community Centre at 200 Eglinton Ave W. If you would rather find an allotment garden, where you can pay a registration fee to garden your own designated patch, you can check out the gardens available via the Toronto Community Garden Network at http://www.tcgn.ca/wiki/wiki.php

Thanks for your interest, hope to see you out on a Thursday soon!

    Hello,
Thank you for all your work here.
I was wondering if you are going to update your calendar. I think this would be a very useful tool as so many books are written for other zones.
    Many thanks,
    Lyndsay

    • Hi Lyndsay,
We’re working on it right now and hope to have something up by early March. Any readers out there interested in contributing your ideas, get in touch at garden (at) torontogreen.ca

      Thanks!
